  • Introduction

    Soft computing techniques such as Expert Systems (ES), Artificial Neural Network (ANN), Fuzzy Logic (FL), Genetic Algorithm (GA), Tabu Search (TS), Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO), Bacteria Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFOA), Differential Evolution (DE), Gravitational Search Algorithm (GSA), Firefly Algorithm (FA), Teaching Learning Based Optimization (TLBO) algorithm etc. have emerged in recent years in engineering technology as a complement tool to mathematical approaches. ES is a knowledge-based or rule based system, which uses the knowledge and interface procedure to solve problems that are difficult enough which requires human expertise for their solution and has been applied in various areas of engineering. Fuzzy logic uses human experiences and preferences via membership functions and fuzzy rules and so the system can be made understandable to a non-expert operator.

  • Objective

    Soft computing has been exploited in depth as a promising approach to achieving the goal of developing intelligent systems. The soft computing helps in several applications not only in single field of study but also in diversified field of studies. This new approach is characterized by a degree of tolerance for uncertainty and imprecision that used to face with in real-world problems. This special issue aims to provide rapid propagation of important results in soft computing technologies, a fusion of research in fuzzy logic, evolutionary computations, neural science and neural network systems and chaos theory and chaotic systems, swarm based algorithms etc. It promotes novel and high quality research findings, innovative solutions to challenging Engineering problems and seeks to continuously advance the state-of-the-art in recent developments as well as the other promising areas of advance computing
